Ever been to a house party to have a plate of cookies get passed around and you see a cookie you like so you grab one then it melts in your mouth leaving you wanting more? At 55 pages this book is that cookie - a good start for part 2. Yes, there are pictures, poems and personal stories and some of the pictures suggest future stories like the picture of the last day of the CNR car department 1956 - boy, what happened that day? The fire of 1936 with a CNR engine on stand by to get the people out of Nakina should the fire come close enough. Elle lets the people tell their stories in their own voices and shows the pluck and fighting spirit, warmth and hospitality of Nakina. The laughs are here too if you've ever been around cows or have seen them wandering around and the size of the pumpkins in the picture section is something to see. The Nakina school song is printed here and the fact the principal had to learn landscaping to be the pincipal in the first place! I'd say more but you'll want to get the book and not have all the surprises ruined by me. Just like the cookie you can't get enough of - maybe we can talk the baker (Elle) into cooking up another book. Enjoy! Scott N McLeod
