Tony, Welcome--I was told by a member of the Nakina Heritage Corporation that "footings" of some of the Vandbeck cabins were still visible there, and that some of their portages have been restored. I bet the folks at Northern Outfitters would be able to tell you more since they lead and outfit canoe trips in that area. (See the contact info on the "Links" page.) Jo Ann gave me photos of the pages that make up a multi-page hand-drawn map of the route used on a two-week canoe trip led by the Emile Cote and some of the Vanderbecks in that area. It shows all the camping and resting spots and the portages they used. I've been meaning to reassemble the photos she sent me into one map so I could post it here.
