Chef Bob, Thanks for checking in. You were our first responding reader. I appreciate your comments and your memories. You certainly do have to keep those places alive inside of you. I trapped and hunted as a kid too, fueled in part by this book. After rediscovering the book and starting this project, I got to missing my own trapping. I started back up three years ago, and have really enjoyed it. It really transformed winter back into a time that I enjoy rather than dread, just like when I was a kid. It's hard work, but the time I spend every day on the trapline is precious to me now. And when my boys come along, it's even better. There's something about seeing a mink in a trap you had given up on after two weeks of seeing it empty every day. So much of life becomes predictable. It's a wonderful thing to be able to save out some part of it that isn't at all. Keep stopping back.
