One of the most hardest and the most expensive books to find of Stephen W. Meader - The Will to Win and Other Stories is now in print at Southern Skies. It was published the same year as our favourite TLN and is as far as I know the only collection of short stories by Meader. Why he published two books that year as he usually only published one a year is a mystery - maybe thinking that one of them woudn't sell too well and the other could pick up the slack. Just a guess but it is a hard one to find as I have bid about a dozen times on ebay but have always lost out. One with a dust jacket fetched over 200.00 U.S.! I've seen a copy listed on abe books web site at over a thousand dollars without the dust jacket. The Southern Skies book is great as it has the old end papers on the front and back pages. In seventy years some things haven't changed a bit as in the first page of the first story the boys football coach was let go due to lack of funding by the school board, sound familiar? Cut backs then and cut backs now. What is a poor boy to do? Get a copy and find out again why Stephen W. Meader is a master with words and action.
